The Lombardy Kroger is one of the worst grocery stores in America, according to an online gaming company's analysis of Google reviews.
Why it matters: Richmonders love to hate the Kroger at
901 N. Lombardy St. due to its crowded parking lot, long lines and the
misplaced items on the shelves, per online reviews.
The store has inspired spoof (though sadly now
dormant) X and Instagram accounts
and at least one article from The Piedmont, Virginia's version of The Onion.
Yes, but: The store is often crowded because its
north-central location makes it the closest national supermarket chain for huge
swaths of the city, including the lower Fan, VCU, downtown, parts of Northside,
the East End and Manchester.
The big picture: Solitaire, the online gaming company
scraped Google reviews from Dec. 2023 for the county's largest 100 cities to
come up with the results.
It found, overall, that Trader Joe's is the most loved grocery
chain, and Walmart the most hated.
And Lombardy Kroger wasn't the only Richmond store to get a
mention; the Willow Lawn Kroger came in 20th on the list for the worst customer
service in the country.
Karri's thought bubble: Lombardy Kroger might get all
the online jokes, but there's only one local Kroger where a former mayoral candidate showed up shirtless on the
evening news after stripping down to save a stabbing victim — it ain't Lombardy.
And I'll take Lombardy's parking lot over Carytown's any
day.
